On December 18, 2024, Mr. Shakeel Muhammad Khan Safi, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees,KP accompanied by Ms. Cindy Kushner, UNICEF Chief of WASH inaugurated the Integrated Resource and Recovery Center (IRRC) and a Drinking Water Supply Scheme at Panian Refugee Village in Haripur.
The establishment of the IRRC aims to address critical needs in waste management and resource recovery within the refugee village promoting sustainable practices and improving overall environmental conditions.
The Drinking Water Supply Scheme is a significant step towards ensuring the availability of clean and safe drinking water for the residents of Panian Refugee Village. The project addresses longstanding challenges related to access to potable water, reducing health risks associated with waterborne diseases and improving the community’s overall well-being.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key officials, local representatives and members of the refugee community. Both initiatives highlight the ongoing commitment of the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees, KP and UNICEF to support Afghan refugees and host communities through innovative and impactful projects.
