The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) organized a two-day symposium at the Best Western Premier Hotel, Islamabad focusing on evidence-based development planning in Pakistan. The Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the event. This symposium marked a significant milestone as part of the country’s first-ever Data for Development (D4D) initiative emphasizing youth development, climate change, gender issues and vulnerable communities, including Afghan refugees.

Distinguished government officials, development partners and academia participated in insightful discussions, shared key outcomes and identified priority areas for the D4D agenda for 2025.

During the session, Mr. Shakeel Muhammad Khan Safi, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, KP, delivered remarks highlighting the importance of data in fostering inclusive and sustainable development particularly for vulnerable populations.

By utilizing accurate data, policymakers can make informed decisions that truly reflect the realities on the ground ultimately leading to more impactful and inclusive outcomes.
